Whether your garment is cotton or cotton-blend, there is the possibility that it may shrink if not properly cared for. Generally, cotton should be hand or machine washed at 30°C or below. Colored cotton garments should be turned inside out before washing. Cotton pieces can then be gently stretched to restore the original shape. Air dry cotton naturally.
To help keep your silk items soft and in excellent condition for years to come, it is recommended to follow the instructions on each item’s care label. Some silk products are labelled as strictly ‘Dry Clean Only’, while others have ‘Dry Clean’ as the recommended cleaning method but may also be hand washed or machine washed. It is advised to clean silk using a lower temperature to other fabrics, as hot water can affect the material’s natural properties and damage to the fibres. We also recommend selecting a specially-formulated silk detergent, which will be gentler on its natural proteins. Turn the item inside out, and soak for up to 30 minutes, then rinse with cool water to remove any remaining soap. Silk should not be tumble dried, and instead can be laid flat to dry naturally. If you need to clean in the machine, first place in a laundry bag, select a delicate, cold-water cycle and remove promptly once the cycle has finished to reduce wrinkles. If the care label on your silk item says that it can be ironed, then use a low iron setting and ideally iron while it is still slightly damp.
Washing wool isn’t as challenging as it seems, and depending on the item, it is simple to spot clean or washable by hand or in the machine. If your wool item is structured, such as a blazer, suit, or coat, then we recommend to spot clean. Generally, most wool is washable and will need to be turned inside out before being washed at temperatures of 30°C or less using a specialist wool detergent. To minimize the risk of shrinkage, it is advised to soak in cold water before you put in the machine. The heat from the tumble dryer can also shrink your garment, so it is best to lay wool flat and allow to air dry away from sunlight and radiators. To ensure a silky, smooth appearance to your wool garment, iron inside-out on a low temperature setting, ideally when it is still damp.
