Prioritising function, durability and comfort, Red Wing boots have been well-loved by generations thanks to their sturdy and classic look, which fits right into modern wardrobes. Handmade in Minnesota, they are an investment worth making. Thanks to the use of quality and durable leather, Red Wing boots will last you years, keeping your feet comfortable all the while protecting them from harm. Ahead, take a look at our Red Wing boots buying guide, which will help you narrow down the styles that work best for you, find your size, and learn how to care for your shoes.

The Most Wanted Red Wing Boot Styles

  • The Red Wing Moc Toe Boots

Originating from the ‘50s, Red Wing’s moc toe boots are the brand’s most popular and versatile style. They come in various colours and types of leather and feature a white wedge sole.

  • The Red Wing Iron Ranger Boots

Born in northern Minnesota, Red Wing’s Iron Ranger boots have a more rugged design. Their double-layered toe-caps offer extra protection to the foot, and speed hooks make lacing easier.

  • The Red Wing Beckman Boots

Named after the brand’s founder, Red Wing’s Beckman boots are made of high quality leather, with footboards and midsoles that mould to the foot for a personalised and comfortable fit.

The Red Wing Sizing Guide

Unsure what size to get? Red Wing men’s boots tend to fit much larger than the ones from other brands, and you will, more often than not, find that you need to drop half to a full size if you have a narrower foot shape.

For women’s Red Wing shoes, we would advise that you stay true to size.

This chart is based on UK sizing. If you are a UK men’s 8, it correlates to a US size 9 and a European size 42. If you are a UK women’s 5, it correlates to a US size 7.5 and a European size 40.

How to Care For Your Red Wing Boots

Caring for your Red Wing shoes by following these 3 simple steps will help you prolong their life.

Step 1: clean your shoes. For waterproof leather, use warm water and a stiff bristle brush; for oiled and dry-tanned leather, use the Red Wing leather cleaner or saddle soap; for nubuck/suede leather, remove dirt with a nubuck/suede brush.

Step 2: condition your shoes to restore the leather, making sure you are using the right products — these will depend on the type of leather your shoes are made of.

For waterproof leather, use Red Wing’s Naturseal® or its mink oil paste; for oiled leather, use Naturseal®, Red Wing boot oil, boot paste, or mink oil; for dry-tanned leather, use Naturseal®, Red Wing mink oil paste, paste wax, or boot polish; for nubuck/suede leather, use Naturseal®.

Step 3: protect your shoes with Red Wing’s leather protector or silicone.

To ensure that your investment lasts, make sure that the soles of your Red Wing shoes stay in good condition. Red Wing boots are made in such a way that they can easily be re-soled — simply take them to your nearest cobblers. Replacing the laces when they are past their best is also a good way to extend their life.

FAQ

Are Red Wing Boots Worth the Price?

Red Wing boots are an investment worth making. They are incredibly comfortable once broken in and made from premium leather that will protect your feet, as well as durable stitching. Designed to last for decades when properly cared for, they can easily be resoled, which will extend their lifespan.

Are Red Wing Boots Guaranteed For Life?

Products bearing a “Red Wing” or “Red Wing Shoes” label are subject to a 12-month warranty against defects in workmanship and materials. If a defect occurs within 12 months of purchase, your Red Wing shoes can be repaired or exchanged. All you need to do is return your pair of shoes to the dealer from which they were purchased.

How Do Red Wing Boots Fit?

Red Wing footwear should feel snug, your toes should have enough room to move, and there should be little or no heel slip. Your first pair will require some breaking in, and we would recommend that you try them on with socks that you wear on a daily basis; should you try them on with thinner socks, you might end up with a pair of shoes that are slightly too big, which would result in rubbing. If you are planning on only wearing them with thicker socks over the Winter, you might need to go half a size up.
