Before attempting to clean wool, we would always recommend checking the garment’s care label to ensure the cleaning method you plan to use will not cause shrinkage. Most wool is washable, with the main exception of structured pieces like suits, jackets and blazers, which are best spot cleaned. Otherwise, most wool can be either hand washed, or washed in the machine on a gentle cycle of 30°C or less, using a mild PH neutral detergent and turned inside out first. To prevent shrinkage, it is advised to soak your garment in cold water before placing it in the machine. Allow to dry naturally, away from radiators and direct sunlight. Hang structured wool, such as jackets and suits, to dry on hangers.
Regular care and maintenance will help keep leather in its original condition for longer. Remove dirt and dust by brushing with a soft, dry brush, and apply special care products to remove any stubborn stains. Persistent stains can be removed with a specialist leather cleaner. Although a leather protector won't safeguard leather from all abrasions, creases, and scuff marks, it is an extra step to take to ensure the leather ages well. Follow by polishing, which helps leather items regain their shine.
Cotton is one of the most popular fabrics, and there are many different types of cotton fabric. We suggest checking the care instructions for the specific item before washing. Generally, cotton should be hand or machine washed at 30°C or below. This will help avoid colour fading and dye transfer. Before allowing to air dry naturally, cotton can be gently stretched when they come out of the wash to restore shape.
Fur that has been cared for will last for years, and we would advise getting it properly cleaned yearly by a professional. However, there are also steps that you can take to help maintain the fur. If the fur gets slightly wet; shake out to remove as much water as possible. Allow to dry in a well-ventilated room, away from any direct heat. Once dry, fluff the fur and smooth with your hand. Do not iron fur, as it may burn and cause irreparable damage.Instead, steam the fur to remove any bacteria, wrinkles and odor.Brush regularly with a cashmere brush, which will remove any lint and hair, as well as rejuvenating the fur’s natural oils. It is recommended to store fur in a breathable cotton bag, away from light and at the correct temperature and humidity levels during warmer weather. It is advised to use a fur cold storage service to maximize longevity.
