The Adidas Sneakers Buying Guide

Whatever your workout, whether it's a studio class, running, or team sports, Adidas sneakers promise to provide you with the ultimate support and protection to help you reach your highest potential performance. With designs that take their inspiration from street style, urban fashion and the season's key trends, Adidas sneakers blend activewear with fashion, to create a sleek and stylish look. Not confined to your gym bag, these sneakers look as good on laid-back days as they do on the treadmill.

In its 100-year history, Adidas has become synonymous with performance and style. The sporting giant started life in 1920’s Germany, when Adi Dassler set out to create the perfect athletic shoe. From heritage styles like the Stan Smith to modern runners like the Ultra Boost, Adidas sneakers can be spotted on both Olympic medalists and catwalk royalty. Always at the forefront of sporting technology, and urban style, the brand pushes the boundaries of performance and fashion. More recently, it’s launched a sustainability effort, crafting sneakers from ocean plastic. Ahead, take a look at our Adidas sneaker buying guide, which will help you decide on the style and size that work best for you.

The Most Wanted Adidas Sneakers

  • Adidas Gazelle Sneakers

Taken from the archive and revamped for a modern-day wearer, the Gazelle is an elegant option for everyday. A smooth suede upper is punctuated with perforations and complete with a contrast heel tab. The three-stripe motif adds authority.

  • Adidas Pure Boost Sneakers

Designed for optimum support on the track, the Pure Boost has a sock-like primeknit upper that contours to your foot. A gripped rubber sole keeps you stable, while the Boost midsole absorbs shock. It features stitched reinforcement for even more support.

  • Adidas Samba Sneakers

A heritage style, the Samba brings a retro feel to outfits with a simple silhouette and vintage-inspired gum sole. The leather or suede upper is accented with a suede heel tab for an elegant feel. This style features an ortholite sockliner for all-day comfort.

The Adidas Sneakers Sizing Guide

Adidas sneakers fit true to size, so you can confidently choose your regular fit. The below conversion chart can be used to find out how international sizing or your foot length in centimeters corresponds with Adidas’ US sizing. For example, if you wear a women’s UK size 6, choose a size 7.5 in Adidas sneakers.

How To Care For Adidas Sneakers

You can easily clean your Adidas sneakers at home, to keep them looking and feeling fresh. It’s not recommended that you put your shoes in the washing machine or tumble dryer, as this can alter the shape and damage the fabric.

Use luke-warm water, a soft cloth and mild liquid detergent to gently dab at spots of dirt on your sneakers. Never submerge your shoes in water. A soft brush like a toothbrush can be used on dried patches of mud – though you should be careful with styles that have a knitted upper, like the Ultra Boost.

To remove mud or dirt from the soles of your sneakers, clean them with a small brush. Then, again, use luke-warm water and a cloth to brighten them up. You can use a rubber eraser to get rid of scuffs or marks on white outsoles. Laces can be washed in the machine, however, it’s helpful to place them in a pillowcase first.

Always let your sneakers air dry naturally. Placing them on the radiator or near a heat source can damage the fabric and shape.

Are Adidas sneakers comfortable?

Adidas constantly pushes the boundaries of performance, creating innovative midsoles that keep you comfortable, whether you’re on or off the track. Look to styles like the Ultraboost that have continental rubber outsoles that flex while you move. Styles with primeknit uppers hug your foot for added support. For a lightweight runner, turn to a style with a 4D midsole, for example the Run 1.0, which adapts to your step and landing, giving you extra cushioning.

Can you machine wash Adidas sneakers?

It’s not recommended that you wash your Adidas sneakers in the washing machine. Runner styles such as the Pulse Boost or Alpha Boost have complex uppers which can be compromised by washing in the machine. Laces and inner soles can, however, be washed in the machine at home on a delicate cycle.

Are Adidas sneakers sustainable?

In 2012, Adidas launched its campaign to help reduce plastic waste. As the brand strives for sustainability, by 2024, the brand aims to replace all of its virgin polyester with recycled polyester, made from old fishing nets. It has already unveiled its Prime Blue collection, which features shoes crafted from ocean plastic.
