Women's Metallic Wax Seal Ring - "forget Me Not"
About)). This hand-cast ring was modified from a much-used 19th-century Scottish wax seal. The original piece had multiple stamps with wonderfully cryptic sentiments and images, all appearing in mirror-image reverse. This was so when the seal was pressed into hot wax, the text would be embossed legibly, right-side-around. We added a ring base, making sure to leave lots of rustic detail intact to reference the object's utilitarian history. Then we added an orange sapphire into the raw brass, which creates a juxtaposition of unpolished metal and bling. Note that your ring's text will be backwards, just like the original artifact. Details)). Made by hand in our Brooklyn studio. Materials: Brass, 1.5mm orange sapphire. Inspiration)). FORGET ME NOT" was a popular phrase that appeared in jewelry during the Victorian Era and often was accompanied by an image of a blue forget-me-not flower. Sometimes lovers would exchange forget-me-not-jewels before they were going to be separated for long periods of time, but female friends also swapped them: Queen Victoria gave her bridesmaids forget-me-not brooches as keepsakes. We've ditched the traditional light blue color associated with the flower and subbed in an orange sapphire. Color: metallic
